I had a chance to work as a 3D team leader for this TV commercial, and I also worked on the logo animation at the end, where the logo is formed by animated metal elements. The 3D work was outsourced to my company but at that time I was working with a Japanese video production company called Palm K.K. as their 3D team leader and I outsourced the work to them. The 3D work was done by me and my team at Palm.
About half of the cuts show the real car that was filmed and about half of the cuts use a 3D rendered car. What I am happy about the result is that the look and feel of the real and 3d rendered cars is close enough so that it creates a consistent flow throughout the commercial.
In one of the shots the car was filmed as stationary, but the wheels were replaced by rotating wheels done with 3D. This was made possible by a good camera track that was provided by F.dice that enabled us to render footage which movement was very close to the movement of the real camera in the shot. The compositing was done by F.dice.
